Constant Genre flip-flopping

I’m tired of the frequent nonsensical updating of artists’ ascribed genres. Last few months I’ve seen several artists changed from multiple genres to 0 genres, to 1 genre, then back to 0, and the cycle repeats. To clarify what I mean by nonsensical: David Bowie, the man who explored every sub-genre of rock and pop, is currently just ‘Rock’. Same with Beatles, Dylan, Doors, Stones, Zeppelin etc. Sometimes they’re no genre at all. It’s clearly not a matter of minimalism as it’s common to see artists with 6+ genres. Many accurately assessed and rarely reassessed. There’s no reason why the biggest artists in music history should be subjected to weekly reassessments with conclusions ranging from wrong to completely wrong.
