Unpopular opinion: stop merging tracks

I know that there are requests to merge tracks, f.e. Single versions with the album ones - I can kind of understand that people want to see the whole history of listening to one song.

I think it’s quite interesting to see how much I listened to a specific release.

But my main issues are: because of the attempt of merging tracks there are albums when you listened to the whole album the tracks get split and count to different albums because for the single tracks different versions are assigned to be the „main one“

For some albums like One Ok Rocks „luxury disease“ different releases exist: a Japanese and an English one. I just listen to the first one but my streams get split because some of the songs are on both albums.

Sometimes a track which was released multiple times in different languages get merged as one.

I just have the impression that these merging attempts bring so many bugs and it just messes up stats.
