The current method of ranking Top Songs based solely on Stream Count alone is functionally a blunder from my perspective. This system fails to account for the differences in track length between songs, invokes a distorted representation of actual engagement with songs. Specifically, it allows high volume of short duration listens to outweigh a significant time investment in longer tracks, which is logically inconsistent to how you’d expect it to; if I stream two different songs the same number of times, it’s much more likely I like the longer song if I’m willing to carve out a more of my day to listen to it.
At the very least, since I can understand there may be a few edge cases where #of listens is a better ranking system for some, a toggle or dropdown allowing users to sort by which metric to rank their top songs (e.g. #of Streams, Minutes Listened, etc.)—functionally similar to the existing timeframe selections (4w, 6m, Lifetime)—is an adequate option to provide an accurate-to-listener overview of listening habits.
